Musical Theater Update!
A message from your Director:
For the past two months, the BackBeatCity Musical Theater team has been successfully collaborating to rehearse and practice all aspects of the Spring 2012 Production: “13: The Musical”. For those of you who don’t know the show, “13” tells the current day story of 13 year old, Evan Goldman as he moves from his perfect life from New York City to a more simple life in Appleton, Indiana. Evan’s goal is to have the most successful Bar Mitzvah that Indiana has ever seen. However, Evan is faced with several problems, one of which involves his struggle to have all of the cool kids at his party or only a few true friends that aren’t necessarily the “coolest” bunch. As the story continues, Evan faces more and more issues while his reputation continues to be at risk. This cast continues to impress me with their drive, focus, and theatrical talent. Throughout this experience, all of the students have been immersed in every aspect of the theatrical world by perfecting their voices, acting skills, and dance techniques. As the Director and Choreographer, I walk into every rehearsal with an open mind and a schedule of tasks we need to complete to make this production successful. I can truly say that I have never walked out of our rehearsals feeling disappointed. These students continue to shock me with their talents. The nine year olds in our cast are proudly keeping up with the fourteen year olds in the cast which should not go unnoticed. As the rehearsal process continues, my cast and I get more and more excited as we discover the possibilities to make this production the incredible success we all know it is going to be. This production will be for all audiences. Our production includes impressive cheerleading stunts, a rock-n-roll style, and a love story that will cause the grumpiest audience member to the person next to them and say “Awwww”. As we continue the rehearsal process, my students and your children tirelessly strive to create believable characters, convey the perfect dance styles and sing beautiful harmonies- while keeping in mind this will be the four hundredth time they’ve run the opening number. Literally.
Only 42 days until Opening Night!
